The Krka national park is a vast and primarily unaltered area of exceptional natural value, including one or more preserved or insignificantly altered ecosystems. The purpose of the Krka National park is primarily to serve science, culture, education, and recreation, while tourism activities have also been introduced for its visitors. Krka River is 72.5 km long, making it the 22nd longest river in Croatia, with seven Krka waterfalls and a total drop in altitude of 242 m, Krka is a natural and karst phenomenon. The travertine waterfalls of the Krka River are the fundamental phenomenon of this river. The need to legally protect the Krka and its exceptional natural values were already recognized in the mid 20th century.
There is no right or wrong way of visiting Krka National Park. Visiting Krka National Park by car might be the option once there is a good plan of how to do it. The easiest way is to use A1 or D8 motorway, depending on your place of departure. There are two exits off the motorway on the stretch Skradin – Šibenik (8.9 km), and it takes just five to ten minutes to reach the best entrance to Krka National Park - Skradin. Your car can stay safe under the tree shadows on the Krka parking. The opening hours of the parking are the same as the Krka National park opening hours, every day from 10 am to 6 pm, except during the high season, July and August - from 8 am to 8 pm. Entrance tickets can be purchased in all entrance offices of the park. Ticket prices depend on the time of the year and locality, and also differ between individual guests and organised groups. To discover the magnificent Skradinski buk, the loudest and best known waterfall on the Krka River, you can set off by boat from Skradin, so you have immediately treated yourself with the boat cruise on this green oasis in the Dalmatian karst landscape. Once you enter the park you will find yourself in front of the Krka National park map where you can find all the necessary details. First things first, human needs - in the park there are 2 toilets. The one close to the map is 5kn per use, the second one is free of charge. There are 2 restaurants - same prices, fine food, different view. There is no ATM in the park, even though everything except the souvenirs and the toilets can be paid by card. The most important part of the park, Skradinski buk waterfall and the swimming area. The watermills, Ethno museum, the remnants of Krka hydroelectric plant from 1895. Also there are 2 fountains with the tap water, picnic area, 2.5km of a wooden path through the whole park and many viewpoints that offers glorious views and unrepeatable selfies.
